Queen Cleopatra was famous the world over
for her beautiful skin which she pampered by
taking long soaking baths in ass's milk. Was
this the beauty secret that helped her win
both Caesar's and Mark Antony's hearts?
Maybe. For sure, her skin was so soft and
glowing that it is still talked about today.
The Scent Chicks believe every girl, woman, lady deserves skin fit for a
Queen.
So we studied Cleopatra's recipe ( or at least, what we like to think
might have been her recipe) and tried to reproduce it as closely as
possible. Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be a great supply of
ass's milk here in North America ( or anywhere else for that matter).
So we compromised by substituting a rich mixture of goat, bovine and
buttermilk milk powders as our base. The lactic acid in the milk is an
alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) that helps dissolve the glue that holds the
skin's dead cells together and has the ability to cleanse the skin down to
its very deepest layers. Isn't it fascinating to find out that Cleopatra
knew about lactic acid's wonderful properties long before modern
scientists did and put a name to it? No matter what you call it, it works!
Cleopatra also seems to have known about the great value of oats
which were used as early as 2000 BC in Egypt to beautify the
skin because of their moisturisation, cleansing and soothing properties.
So we have added ground colloidal oats to our milk bath mixture. While
we make no claims about its therapeutic benefits, we do know that the
Mayo Clinic uses oatmeal baths to treat itchiness in some of their
patients.
We wanted to go one step further because we knew that Cleopatra also
loved scents. So we also add patchouli oil for its subtly
sensual, musky and exotic aroma and also because
patchouli has been known and used, especially in Egypt, for
thousands of years in love potions. It is said to be an
aphrodisiac and to combat apathy
One thing about the smell of patchouli - you either love it or you hate
it. There is no middle ground We personally happen to love it and so do
many of our clients. That's why you will find it in some other of our
"toiletries"
Full of skin nurturing ingredients that you will appreciate, our milk
bath granules will interact with your skin and, hopefully, work wonders
for it while you follow the time honoured tradition of relaxing
in a nice long soak in a nice tub of warm water.
For those who prefer a lighter fragrance, however, we also
offer our milk bath scented with our signature "lily of the
valley" also known as "muguet des bois "scent. Why?
Simply because we both love this fragrance as it reminds us of
springtime and flower gathering with our mom. Of course it doesn't hurt
that, in aromatherapy, lily of the valley is said to be gently sedative
and soothing, plus calming for the heart, nerves and emotions.
Apparently, the scent of lily is helpful for irritability, anxiety, and
insomnia and contributes to reducing worry. We've stated before that
we are not aromatherapists but we certainly do study up on it and hope
it is true.
To our wonderful mixture, we have also added some sea salts because
of their naturally detoxifying and softening properties. In other words,
we want to offer you a product that will make you feel good all over,
but that may closely resemble the mixture Cleopatra used.
Our milk bath granules are suitable for normal or combination type
skins and have very skin nurturing holistic ingredients. All these good
things contribute to making your bath a bit more slippery and silky
feeling than usual so please do be careful. We suggest you soak
for a long, long time. Don't worry about soaking too long in the tub!
Cleopatra's Milk Bath won't harm your skin because we don't use
abrasive ingredients. Our Milk Bath will leave you with a baby soft skin
while ex-foliating, moisturising & rejuvenating it at the same time.At
least, that is what we hope.
Most likely, you won't want to leave your tub scented with our Milk
Bath granules. You may even feel like reading your favourite novel. At
least that's what Joce does! But you will have to eventually. We
suggest that you pat yourself with a soft towel rather than rubbing
yourself with a coarser one.
Why? Simply because it's more luxurious and delightful that way.
Our milk bath granules come in a glass jar with a scoop or shell, are
pale cream in colour and are most attractive. Our customers tell us
they are one of their favourite gifts both to give and to receive.
Our price per jar: $12.00
